Instalacja

XP drivers install instructions for the VGN-SZ71 series.

  • Make sure that :
    • the Vaio is set on Speed mode, by moving the switch above the keyboard to Speed
    • the Wireless switch above the keyboard is switched on.
    • The unit is connected on AC power
    • No 3 rd party hardware is connected / installed on the unit when starting this process.
  • Install Windows XP Professional from the bundled disc, following the instructions from the booklet.

After the setup is completed, the hotfixes are installed from the XP downgrade disc, and the system has rebooted, please press cancel to all "Found new hardware" pop-up screens.

  • Please go to the downloaded Utilities folder

Install the utilities in the correct order. Starting with Utilities folder 1. Run the setup file from each folder.

  • When during the setup the system asks to reboot, please do so and continue with the next folder when back in windows. Please press cancel to all "Found new hardware" pop-up screens at this stage.
  • When installing the Vaio Event Service, please select the typical install
  • Audio driver installation :
    • After the reboot again press cancel to all "Found new hardware" pop-up screens, open the Drivers folder, then run the setup file in this folder. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Modem installation
    • Open the modem folder in the Drivers folder
    • Run the Setup file and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Graphics installation :
    • Since we are in Speed mode we will first install the Nvidia Graphics driver:
      • Open the Video_speed folder
      • Run the setup file in the folder and follow the on-screen instructions.
      • The screen will flash a couple of times during the installation, this is normal.
      • When the install is finished, it will ask to restart the computer, please do so.
  • Now switch the Stamina/Speed switch above the keyboard to Stamina. Select restart now to switch to Stamina mode. The system will restart again.
  • When windows has restarted press cancel to all "Found new hardware" pop-up screens.
    • Go to Start > Control Panel
    • Select "classic view" from the left pane
    • Double click on "System"
    • Click on the Hardware tab and click on "Device Manager"
    • Left-click on the Video Controller (VGA Compatible) and select update driver.
    • Select "No, not this time" and click next
    • Select "Install from a specific location" and click next
    • Unselect "Search removable media" and select "include this location in the search"
    • Click on browse and browse to the downloaded drivers folder, then to the Video_Stamina folder and click Ok
    • Click Next

The screen will flash a couple of times during the installation and show some "found new hardware windows" Please do not click anything, this is part of the install process and will stop when the installation is finished. Restart once the process has completed.

Once rebooted, press cancel to all "Found new hardware" pop-up screens.

  • Bluetooth installation :
    • Open the Bluetooth folder
    • Run the setup program. Follow the on-screen instructions
    • Reboot the PC when requested at the end of the installation
    • After the reboot the computer will make some sounds indicating new hardware being connected, this is normal.
  • Wireless LAN drivers installation:
    • Browse to the folder Drivers and then open the WLAN_drivers folder
    • Start the setup file and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Camera driver installation :
    • Run the setup file from the Camera Folder

Other drivers installations :

Open the Device manager :

  • Go to Start > Control Panel
  • Double click on "System"
  • Click on the Hardware tab and click on "Device Manager"
  • Mass Storage controller (Memorystick):
    • Right click on the Mass Storage Controller item under Other devices and select Update driver
    • Select "No, not this time" and press Next
    • Select "Install from a specific location" and press Next
    • Click on Browse and browse to the Drivers folder and select there the FlashMedia folder and press Ok
    • Click on Next
    • Click on Finish when done
    • Do not restart the PC
  • Touchpad driver :
    • Go to Start > Control Panel
    • Double click on "System"
    • Click on the Hardware tab and click on "Device Manager"
    • Click on the + before Mice and other pointing devices
    • Right click on the PS/2 Compatible mouse item and select Update driver
    • Select "No, not this time" and press Next
    • Select "Install from a specific location" and press Next
    • Click on Browse and browse to the Drivers folder and select there the Pointing folder and press Ok
    • Click on Next
    • Click on Finish when done
    • Do not restart the PC
  • TPM module installation (for units with a TPM module)
    Note : Only applicable in case you did not install the optional TMP utility
    • Go to Start > Control Panel
    • Double click on "System"
    • Click on the Hardware tab and click on "Device Manager"
    • Right click on the Unknown device item under Other devices and select Update driver
    • Select "No, not this time" and press Next
    • Select "Install from a specific location" and press Next
    • Click on Browse and browse to the Drivers folder and select there the TPM folder and press Ok
    • Click on Next
    • Click on Finish when done
  • Sony Notebook controller
    • Go to Start > Control Panel
    • Double click on "System"
    • Click on the Hardware tab and click on "Device Manager"
    • Click on the + before "Human interface devices"
    • Right click on the Sony "Notebook Control device" item and select Update driver
    • Select "No, not this time" and press Next
    • Select "Install from a specific location" and press Next
    • Click on Browse and browse to the Drivers folder and select there the SNC and press Ok
    • Click on Next
    • Click on Finish when done
    • Do not restart the PC.
  • Sony PI controller
    • Click on the + before "Human interface devices"
    • Right click on the Sony "Notebook Programmable I/O Control device" item and select Update driver
    • Select "No, not this time" and press Next
    • Select "Install from a specific location" and press Next
    • Click on Browse and browse to the Drivers folder and select there the Sony_PI folder and press Ok
    • Click on Next
    • Click on Finish when done
    • Restart the PC
  • For the models with integrated Wireless WAN functionalities :
    Important notes :
    * Some operator specific functionalities will not be available after the

downgrade to Windows XP (e.g. Video telephony, etc)
* Make sure the battery is properly connected to the Vaio.

  • Open the WWAN folder in the Drivers folder
  • Run the setup.exe file.
  • When the setup is complete, open the Wireless Switching Utility (click on Start à Control Panel à Vaio control Center à Network connections à Wireless switch settings)
  • Enable the Wireless WAN function by ticking the box in front of it and press Ok.
  • The system will now automatically start install the drivers, this can take 1-2 minutes.

-> Use the Globetrotter icon on the desktop to start the Wireless WAN connection manager.

-> Make sure to insert your SIM card properly in the slot behind the battery and to re-insert the battery afterwards.

This completes the XP downgrade setup.

Important note : DVD playback is not natively supported in Windows XP, so a separate program is needed in order to playback DVD movies. This software will not be supplied by Sony.
